Mad Batters came together in the spring of 1986 due to the folding of another,
much larger league. Many of the teams, which were left with no place to play,
decided to form their own volunteer non-profit group with a mandate to provide
the inherent fun in Co-ed slo-pitch mixed with good competition. The first
couple of years revolved around much trial and error until affiliation with
Softball Calgary came to be. This brought many benefits such as good
diamonds, tournaments like the City championships, no cost insurance and bulk
supplies, etc. In 1999 we also became associated with Wildrose Umpires and
the National Softball Association.

Our league plays at the Deerfoot Diamonds off 16th Ave N.E. beginning the first
week of May ending the last week of July. There are two divisions of 8 teams
each playing doubleheaders once a week on either Monday or Wednesday
nights, excluding holidays and most of Stampede week. Rainouts are
sometimes made up on Friday nights. Three teams from the league will be
rewarded with a trip to the City Championships in either the C, D, or E divisions.

There is a League Tournament at Okotoks at "On Deck",  in June which is included in the team fees. Entry is also open for eight outside spots. Great fun and prizes.
